How it actually works

From plugin install to cloud-stored, encrypted snapshot in under five minutes. No marketing fluff.

Encryption before upload

Get started

Four steps. Five minutes.

01

Brief

Create an account

Sign up for free. No credit card required.

02

Scope

Install the plugin

Drop in the respawn.sh plugin for Minecraft, Hytale, or FiveM.

03

Build

Connect your server

Add your API key to the respawn config file for your game.

04

Launch

Sleep peacefully

Backups happen automatically. Download anytime from your dashboard.

The plugin

Install in under five minutes

The respawn.sh Bukkit plugin is the bridge between your server and the cloud. It monitors your server files, batches changes, encrypts them locally, and pushes only the delta on each run, entirely in the background.

Install flow

paper-1.21.4 / plugins

01

Drop in the .jar

Spigot, Paper, Purpur, Folia

Download the plugin from your dashboard. Drop it into your /plugins folder. No configuration wizard, no setup scripts.

02

Initialize your server

Hardware-linked activation

Run a single command to securely link your server with respawn.sh. Your API key is hardware-locked to the machine after activation, no config editing required.

03

Backups start automatically

Runs async, zero TPS impact

The first backup runs within the hour. Every subsequent backup only uploads what changed since the last one, usually just a few megabytes.

Under the hood

Why backups are tiny

Most backup tools upload your entire server every time. We invented a smarter path: only move what actually changed.

01stage
World files split into backup chunks

Content-Defined Chunking

02stage
Duplicate chunks removed from backup upload

Deduplication

03stage
Encrypted backup data before upload

Encrypted, then uploaded over TLS

04stage
Stored game server snapshots

Stored across redundant infrastructure

~94% Average dedup ratio on active SMP servers
AES-256-GCM Encryption cipher with per-chunk HKDF-SHA256 key derivation
99.9% Uptime SLA on object storage infrastructure

Restoring

Back online in three steps

When disaster strikes, the last thing you want is a complicated recovery process. respawn.sh keeps it simple: browse, click download, swap the folder.

01

Pick a snapshot

Every automated backup creates a snapshot. Browse the timeline in your dashboard: hourly snapshots (or more frequent) going back as far as your retention window allows.

restore checkpoint

02

Download in one click

Click download. respawn.sh fetches and decrypts only the chunks for that snapshot, rebuilds the original files, and hands you a clean .zip or tar.gz.

restore checkpoint

03

Drop it in, you're live

Stop your server. Replace the server files. Start again. Your server is back exactly as it was at that snapshot: every plugin, every config, every player file.

restore checkpoint

Reliability

Built for servers that actually matter

Encrypted and TLS-protected

AES-256-GCM encryption happens on your server before data leaves. Everything is transferred over TLS, making it impossible for any attacker to intercept.

Zero performance impact

Backups run asynchronously on a dedicated thread pool. Server files are read while the server runs. TPS doesn't drop.

Works with any host

Shared hosting, VPS, dedicated box: if it runs Bukkit/Spigot/Paper/Purpur/Folia and can reach the internet, the plugin works.

Features

Why respawn.sh actually works.

No BS. Just backups for Minecraft, Hytale, and FiveM that run themselves and restore when you need them.
